$ USD 1,200.00
TENNET seeks to bring back the joy of watch collecting, whereby watches are not only functional tools, but also objects of lasting beauty and art that can encapsulate one’s memories, hopes and dreams.

The Lagoon variant of Somerset has a shade of blue that is vibrant, dynamic and inviting. It is a statement piece for your wrist.

The design of the Somerset originates from our desire to create a good, honest timepiece, with classic yet unique, modern and sporty aesthetics. Seemingly an elegant, simple watch at first glance, the Somerset reveals new details upon each inspection.

DESIGN LANGUAGE

We adore the classic sector dial aesthetic, but desire to break the mono-dimensional aspect of the genre. We have created a sector-like design, incorporating various textures and shapes. The result is the Somerset’s signature dial that is rich, layered and complex.

The tear-drop indices on the dial form a motif which will remain iconic for TENNET watches in the years to come. Water stands for new life, vitality, hope and optimism, and the sinuous shape of the tear-drop is both elegant and dynamic.

The “Delta” style hour and minute hands we have created also draw inspiration and synergy from the tear-drop indices on the dial, and allow minimal obstruction of the sunburst dial. Swiss Superluminova lume allows for easy time-reading in the dark, including colour-matching lumes for the minute hand and the index at 12 o’clock.

The seconds hand features a coloured tip, again in the tear-drop silhouette, and allows for instinctive reading of time. The Lagoon is paired with a yellow tip for a distinctive pop.

For the case, we wanted an aggressive look. The flared lugs, reminiscent of vintage horn lugs of iconic timepieces, allow for a sporty aesthetic, while maintaining an elegant silhouette. This is a watch that is meant to be worn not just in the boardroom but also out in the field as a polyvalent instrument.

The crown is a labour of love. Being a manual-winding watch, we wanted a grippy crown, without the boring knurled aesthetic of many other watches. Many iterations were discarded prior to this final design - a faceted crown featuring multiple “Domino” holds. The red dot at the side of the crown is also a tribute to our origins, being from Singapore, a country many call the “Little Red Dot”.

The caseback reveals the beating heart of the watch: our customised venerable SW210 manual-winding movement. But more about the movement later.

The circumference of the caseback features our brand and product names, our motto for this model, namely the indomitable and fearless spirit of Nolite Timere as well as the reference number of each TENNET watch.

THE MOVEMENT

Each Somerset is driven by the venerable SW210 Swiss movement, a reliable and capable movement used in many high-end timepieces. We utilised a top grade movement, which is fully decorated, with Côtes de Genève stripes, perlage on the base plates, and heat-blued screws. The wheel bridge also features TENNET’s visual logo, an 8-pointed star, which alludes to our clarity of purpose and direction, and is also a symbol of protection, strength and energy.

THE STRAPS

Each Somerset watch comes paired with a colour-synergistic full leather strap exclusively crafted for us by acclaimed strap retailer, Delugs. Our straps feature a quick-change function to allow for easy strap swaps to change the look of your timepiece.

THE AESTHETIC, AND THE END

"When a poem rhymes, when a form generates itself, when a metre provokes consciousness into new postures, it is already on the side of life. When a rhyme surprises and extends the fixed relations between words, that in itself protests against necessity. When language does more than enough, as it does in all achieved poetry, it opts for the condition of overlife, and rebels at limit." - Seamus Heaney

The design of a watch is akin to creating poetry. While essential components lend form and function to the end product, it is the rhyme and rhythm which breathe soul into the creation. For the Somerset, the accents of each individual component, and the articulation of the case silhouette, give life, character and meaning to the watch.

We hope you will join us on this journey of visual poetry and watchmaking.

Finally, watchmaking is not an end in itself. A watch is meant to be worn to accompany the owner through thick and thin in life, in pursuit of one’s dreams.

After all, TENNET times your dreams.
